In a bad economy everyone looks for ways to save some money. Believe it or not you are already equipped with everything you need to save money on those tasks you at one time paid someone to do. Here I am going to list some things that you can easily do yourself and save some money.
Change Your Own Oil

Your car needs to have its oil changed and that is a fact. A car with good, clean oil being pumped through it will last a lot longer than one using old dirty oil. With that said let me be the first to tell you that, no, you do not need to change it every 3000 miles. Changing it every 5000 will suffice. If you have a newer car, one purchased in the last year or two, many come with a sensor that will tell you when to change your oil. As you can see switching from 3000 to 5000 already saves you some money right there. However, change it yourself and you will save anywhere from ten to twenty dollars per oil change. Changing your oil is the easiest thing you can do on your car. You loosen one screw, drain the old oil, remove the old oil filter, put the screw back on as well as a new oil filter, add in a few quarts of oil and you are done. Sure you can go to a "quick" lube place and be done in 10 minutes, but do it yourself, don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and you can do it in 15 minutes and save some cash.
Mulch Your Grass
Most new lawn mowers already come equipped with a mulching blade. A mulching blade is specifically designed to not only cut the grass but shred it so you do not have to bag the grass, put it out to the curb and so on. If your mower does not have a mulching blade, don't worry you can buy them at any Sears, Home Depot, Lowes etc. Depending on your mower they range in price from fiver dollars to twenty-five dollars. You save money by not having to invest in buying those brown refuse bags, and you save time because you no longer have to stop to bag your grass clippings. But there are more benefits to switching to a mulching blade. By shredding up your grass clippings and allowing them to decompose into your lawn is the best form of fertilizer you can give it. Far superior to any chemicals you will apply. This also reduces the amount of grass clippings your local city picks up for waste (that goes to a landfill) or that sits around while it turns into compost or mulch. Spend the money, get yourself a mulching blade.
Flea markets
Do you need something to accomplish a specific task? Before you go out and buy new, hit your local flea market, garage and yard sale circuits. People are always looking to unload things they are no longer using and they do it at a huge savings to you. I have been able to land great power tools, kitchen appliances and so much more at these events at wonderful savings. Get to know where these are being held in your area. Chances are your local newspaper has a listing of garage and yard sales in the area. Check it out.
These are just three ways off the top of my head that I can think of that will help you save money. Add these three to your list that I am sure you already have and you can easily put an extra few hundred dollars in your pocket every year.
